I know that a big chunk of the best and brightest of the progressive blogosphere are right now having a night cap at YearlyKos, but not all of the best and brightest are here.
Jeepers, SNAP OUT OF IT! Life goes on outside YearlyKos! Bush signed an Executive Order today declaring a nat*onal emerg*ncy -- and nobody's covering it at Daily Kos. Yeah, I'm worried enough that I'm not using all the vowels here. Apparently today's EO freezes the assets of those persons or parties who are acting against the sovereign elected government of Lebanon (read: Syria).
But the extra fillip is the declaration of a state of national em*rgency because of perceived threats to our national security. What???
Excerpt from the text of the EO:
I, GEORGE W. BUSH, President of the United States of America, determine that the actions of certain persons to undermine Lebanon’s legitimate and democratically elected government or democratic institutions, to contribute to the deliberate breakdown in the rule of law in Lebanon, including through politically motivated violence and intimidation, to reassert Syrian control or contribute to Syrian interference in Lebanon, or to infringe upon or undermine Lebanese sovereignty contribute to political and economic instability in that country and the region and constitute an unusual and extraordinary threat to the national security and foreign policy of the United States, and I hereby declare a national emergency to deal with that threat.
This has all the hallmarks of a psyop or a black op of some sort, IMO; the first press to pick up and note this EO was Reuters in Croatia, followed by ABC and then Faux News. A highly coincident opinion piece was published about Hamaswithin the hour of the first coverage. But there's been little corporate media coverage over all...why??
Granted, there have been a number of national em*rgencies declared between the mid-1970's and 2001, for similar purposes (economic pressure on foreign entities). But under this administration, the application of a declared national em*rgency should be viewed skeptically.
What's your take on this, those of you who aren't down the corridor at the watering hole here at YearlyKos??
